Aspistes spathis is a species of minute black scavenger fly in the family Scatopsidae. It was originally described by Edwin F. Cook in 1965 as Arthria spathis before being placed in the genus Aspistes.[2]
While specific morphological traits of Aspistes spathis cannot be resolved from the available dataset imagery, members of the genus Aspistes are generally characterized by their robust, somewhat flattened bodies and specialized, thickened fore tibiae, which are often adapted for digging.[1]
