This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
The genus Aspistes includes small flies that are often associated with sandy environments.[2] Based on observations of Aspistes berolinensis from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, these insects exhibit a compact body form typical of many scatopsids.[1] The specimens generally display a dark, often blackish, coloration and possess relatively short, robust legs.[1]
Members of the genus Aspistes are known to be psammophilous, meaning they are adapted to sandy habitats.[2] For example, Aspistes berolinensis has been documented in sandpits, particularly in microhabitats with loose sand and sparse vegetation such as Calamagrostis epigejos.[2] The genus is considered to be widespread across the Western Palaearctic region.[2]
