Aspidopyga cophuroides exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Asilidae (robber flies), featuring a robust, elongated thorax and a slender, tapering abdomen. Observations from available imagery indicate a body coloration dominated by dark, often brownish or blackish tones, with fine, hair-like setae (bristles) distributed across the thorax and legs. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, extending along the length of the abdomen. The legs are well-developed, adapted for grasping prey, and often display distinct, stout bristles on the tibiae.[1]
Aspidopyga cophuroides is a species of robber fly in the family Asilidae. It was described by the entomologist Messias Carrera in 1949. The species was formally published in his work, "Contribuição conhecimento dos Asilidae Neotropicais (Diptera). I. Sobre as espécies brasileiras com esporão na tíbia," which appeared in Arquivos de Zoologia.[2]
