This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Aspidoptera phyllostomatis is a bat fly that parasitizes the phyllostomid bat Artibeus planirostris.[2] Research conducted in the Cerrado region of Southwest Brazil has documented high prevalence and intensity of infestation by this species on its host.[2]
Based on observations of museum specimens, Aspidoptera phyllostomatis exhibits the characteristic morphology of a bat fly, adapted for a parasitic lifestyle on its host.[1] The body is dorsoventrally flattened, a common trait among hippoboscids that facilitates movement through the fur of the host.[1] The specimens display robust legs equipped with claws, which are specialized for clinging to the host's hair.[1]
