This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Asphondylia tecticorniae exhibits the characteristic delicate, slender body form typical of many gall midges within the family Cecidomyiidae.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and elongated antennae, which are consistent with the morphological traits of the genus Asphondylia.[1]
Asphondylia tecticorniae is a gall-inducing midge. It has been documented to interact with the plant species Tecticornia arbuscula (family Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae), which serves as its host.[2] The species was formally described by Veenstra and Kolesik in 2011, based on research into gall midges infesting Tecticornia species in Australian saltmarshes.[3]
