Asphondylia pruniperda is a species of gall midge within the family Cecidomyiidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult insect exhibits the characteristic delicate, slender body form typical of many cecidomyiids.[1] The specimens display long, slender legs and antennae, which are diagnostic features of the genus Asphondylia.[1]
Asphondylia pruniperda was described by the entomologist Camillo Rondani in 1867.[2] Like other members of the genus Asphondylia, this species is known to be associated with the formation of galls on host plants. Interactions recorded in ecological databases indicate that Asphondylia pruniperda can be a host for parasitoid wasps, such as Sigmophora brevicornis (family Eulophidae).[3]
