This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asphondylia pruinosa is a species of gall midge. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit a slender, delicate body typical of the family Cecidomyiidae.[1] The specimens display long, thin legs and antennae, with a body coloration that appears muted, consistent with a camouflaged appearance often found in species associated with plant galls.[1]
Asphondylia pruinosa has been documented to interact with the plant species Packera aurea (golden ragwort).[2] As a member of the genus Asphondylia, it is likely involved in the formation of galls on its host plant, a common behavior among members of this genus within the family Cecidomyiidae.
The species was described by J.D. Plakidas in 2016, based on research regarding gall midges in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[3]
