This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asphondylia prosopidis is a gall-inducing midge. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult flies exhibit the characteristic delicate, slender body form typical of the family Cecidomyiidae.[1] They possess long, slender legs and antennae, with wings that are often held over the back when at rest.[1]
Asphondylia prosopidis is known to interact with plants in the genus Prosopis, including Prosopis glandulosa.[2] As a gall-inducing insect, it modifies plant tissue to create galls, which provide both food and shelter for its developing larvae.[3] It is also known to be associated with parasitoid wasps in the genus Torymus.
