Asphondylia helianthiglobulus, commonly known as the Sunflower Purse Gall Midge, is a species of gall-inducing insect in the family Cecidomyiidae.[1]
This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[2]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Asphondylia helianthiglobulus is a small, delicate fly.[2] The adult insects exhibit a slender body form typical of many cecidomyiids, with long, thin legs and wings that are relatively large in proportion to the body.[2]
Asphondylia helianthiglobulus is a gall-inducing species, known to interact with plants in the genus Helianthus, such as Helianthus decapetalus.[3] As a member of the genus Asphondylia, it is subject to parasitism by various parasitoid species, including those within the subfamily Rileyinae (Eurytomidae), such as Rileya species.[4]
