This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asphondylia borrichiae is a gall midge, a type of small fly in the family Cecidomyiidae. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult insects exhibit the characteristic delicate, slender body form typical of cecidomyiids, with long, thin legs and antennae. The wings are generally transparent or lightly pigmented, often held in a resting position that reveals the body's elongated abdomen. The coloration is typically muted, often in shades of brown or grey, which may aid in camouflage on their host plants.[1]
Asphondylia borrichiae is a gall-inducing insect. It is known to be associated with host plants in the genus Borrichia (Asteraceae), specifically Borrichia frutescens, as well as plants in the genus Iva.[2] The species has been documented in Mexico, where it is one of nine Asphondylia species known to occur.[3]
