This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Asphondylia bigeloviaebrassicoides is a gall midge associated with the formation of distinct, cabbage-like galls on its host plant.[1] The galls appear as compact, leafy, or bud-like structures, often exhibiting a clustered, overlapping arrangement of modified plant tissues that resemble a miniature cabbage head.[1]
Asphondylia bigeloviaebrassicoides is known to interact with the host plant Ericameria nauseosa (rabbitbrush).[2] The species was originally described as Cecidomyia bigeloviaebrassicoides by Townsend in 1893, based on the cabbage-like galls it induces on its host.[3]
