Asphondylia atriplicicola is a species of gall midge within the family Cecidomyiidae. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal that the adult insects possess a slender, elongated body typical of many cecidomyiids. The body exhibits a brownish to greyish coloration, often with fine, hair-like setae covering the thorax and abdomen. The wings are relatively long and narrow, with a reduced venation pattern characteristic of the order Diptera. The legs are long and slender, facilitating movement on the host plant surfaces.[1]
Asphondylia atriplicicola is known as the Saltbush Blister Gall Midge.[2] It is a gall-inducing insect that interacts with plants in the genus Atriplex (saltbush), including species such as Atriplex canescens and Atriplex leucophylla.[3]
