Asmeringa inermis is a small fly characteristic of the family Ephydridae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a generally slender body form typical of many shore flies.[1] The head features prominent compound eyes, and the wings are typically clear or lightly infuscated, held in a characteristic position relative to the thorax.[1]
Asmeringa inermis was described by the entomologist Theodor Becker in 1903.[2] The original description was published in his work on Egyptian Diptera. As a member of the family Ephydridae, it is commonly referred to as a shore fly.[3]
