This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of Asmeringa specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, these flies exhibit a small, robust body form typical of many shore flies.[1] They typically possess a dark, often brownish or greyish coloration, which may provide camouflage in their coastal or saline habitats.[1] The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, and the eyes are prominent relative to the head size.[1]
Asmeringa is a genus within the family Ephydridae, commonly known as shore flies.[2] Members of this genus have been documented in biotic interactions, such as Asmeringa senegalensis interacting with the fungus Stigmatomyces giordanii.[3]
