This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asiosphegina is a subgenus of the genus Sphegina[2]. Morphological observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies typically exhibit a slender, elongated body form characteristic of many Syrphidae, with a distinctively narrow petiolate abdomen.[1] The thorax and abdomen often display a combination of dark brown to black coloration, sometimes with lighter, yellowish or orange markings on the legs and basal abdominal segments.[1]
The subgenus Asiosphegina is morphologically distinguished from the subgenus Sphegina (s. str.) by specific structural traits:
The Oriental fauna of Sphegina is highly diverse, with many species classified within Asiosphegina. Identification of these species, particularly for males, relies heavily on the morphology of the genitalia.[2]
