Asilus peritulus is known from fossil specimens. Observations of these specimens reveal the characteristic elongated body form typical of the family Asilidae. The fossilized remains show distinct segmentation of the abdomen and the presence of elongated, slender appendages, consistent with the morphology of robber flies.[1]
Asilus peritulus was described by Cockerell in 1909.[2] It is classified within the family Asilidae, commonly known as robber flies, which are predatory insects.
