This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asilus crabroniformis, commonly known as the hornet robberfly, is a large, robust fly that exhibits a striking resemblance to a hornet in both size and coloration.[2] Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a distinct yellow and black banded abdomen, which contributes to its hornet-like appearance.[1] The thorax is typically covered in dense, brownish or yellowish hairs, and the wings are often tinted with a yellowish or brownish hue.[1]
While Asilus crabroniformis has been historically recorded in various regions, including the Mordovia State Nature Reserve in Russia, recent surveys have failed to locate the species in certain areas, leading to its exclusion from some updated regional faunal lists.[3]
