Asilus barbarus is a species of robber fly. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit a robust, elongated body typical of the family Asilidae. Key visible traits include a prominent, bristly face (frons) and a thorax that is often covered in fine, dense hairs. The legs are characterized by the presence of sparse, very fine spines. The wings are generally yellowish in appearance, with the apical and marginal areas exhibiting darker, blackish coloration.[1]
Asilus barbarus was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 in the 10th edition of Systema Naturae. The species is noted to inhabit Mauritania.[2]
