Visual Description
Asarkina is a genus of hoverflies (family Syrphidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of this genus typically exhibit a slender, elongated body form characteristic of many syrphids.[1] The abdomen often displays distinct, alternating bands of yellow and black or brown, providing a wasp-like appearance.[1]
Ecology and Interactions
Asarkina species are known to visit flowers, acting as pollinators.[2] Documented interactions include visiting flowers of plants such as Stachys aethiopica and Jamesbrittenia microphylla. They are also known to be preyed upon by other insects, such as the dragonfly Orthetrum sabina.
