Based on observations of preserved specimens, Antissa cuprea exhibits a robust, compact body form characteristic of many soldier flies. The specimens display a dark, metallic coloration, consistent with the specific epithet cuprea (meaning copper-colored). The thorax and abdomen are relatively broad, and the wings are typically held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The legs are relatively short and stout.[1]
Antissa cuprea was originally described by Francis Walker in 1849 as Clitellaria cuprea.[2] It is currently classified within the family Stratiomyidae, commonly known as soldier flies.
