This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Anastrebla spurrelli is a species of bat fly, a group of highly specialized, often wingless or reduced-winged ectoparasitic flies. Based on observations of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic flattened body form typical of the family Hippoboscidae, which facilitates movement through the fur of its host. The specimens display a robust, sclerotized thorax and a head that is closely integrated with the thoracic structure. The legs are well-developed with prominent claws, an adaptation for clinging to host hair.[1]
Anastrebla spurrelli is an ectoparasite associated with bats (Chiroptera). Documented host associations include the chestnut long-tongued bat (Lionycteris spurrelli) and the little white-shouldered bat (Ametrida centurio).[2]
