Visual Description
Amblypsilopus psittacinus is a small, slender fly typical of the family Dolichopodidae. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a metallic, often iridescent body coloration, which is characteristic of many species in the subfamily Sciapodinae.[1] The wings are generally clear (hyaline) and possess a distinct venation pattern, including an elbow-shaped bend in vein M1.[2] The legs are notably long and slender, a common trait in this genus.
General Information
Amblypsilopus psittacinus (Loew, 1861) is the type species of the genus Amblypsilopus Bigot, 1888. The genus is globally distributed and highly diverse, containing approximately 360 species. Amblypsilopus is considered a challenging genus to define, with many species showing subtle morphological differences, particularly among females.
