Morphology and Identification
Allomyella albipennis (Zetterstedt, 1838) is a small-sized fly, measuring approximately 3.1–3.2 mm in length.[2] It is currently classified within the genus Microprosopa Becker, 1894, where it is placed in the subgenus Allomyella Malloch, 1923.
Diagnostic features include:
- Head: Features a black frontal vitta (yellowish only in the lower third or half), black fronto-orbital plates, and a greyish-dusted postcranium with black setae in the upper third and pale hairs in the lower part.
- Thorax: Black and greyish-dusted. The proepimeron has one pale setula, and the anepimeron usually bears one or several hairs.
- Legs: Coxae, trochanters, and femora are black; tibiae and tarsi are yellow.
- Abdomen: Black and subshining, with tergites 3–5 shining along the lateral margins.
- Male Genitalia: A reliable diagnostic feature is the structure of the male 5th sternite, which is symmetrical with bifurcate lobes.
Distribution
The species is recorded in Russia (Karelia, Moscow Oblast, and Tyumen’ Oblast) and Europe (Scandinavia).[3]
