Visual Description
Allobaccha amphithoe is a hoverfly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the genus. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the abdomen is notably constricted at the base, often displaying distinct banding patterns.[1] The wings are generally clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest.
Distribution and Ecology
Allobaccha amphithoe (Walker, 1849) is a hoverfly species recorded in the Western Himalaya region of India.[2] It possesses a broad distribution that includes Burma, China, India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal), Japan, and Sri Lanka.
The species has been observed visiting flowers of Cyanthillium cinereum.[3]
