Visual Description
Agathomyia viduella is a species of flat-footed fly. Based on observations of museum specimens and field photographs, the adult fly exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Platypezidae. The body is generally compact, with a distinct, rounded head and a thorax that appears robust. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with venation patterns characteristic of the genus. The legs, particularly the hind tarsi, are often flattened or broadened, a trait common among members of this family.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Agathomyia viduella (Zetterstedt, 1838) is a Palaearctic species of flat-footed fly that is frequently encountered in North and Central Europe.[2] In the Gemer region of Central Slovakia, the species has been recorded in the Muránska planina area, including the Hrdzavá dolina valley and the Poludnica and Šarkanica reserves. While the specific biology of A. viduella remains unknown, adults are typically found along brooks in deciduous and mixed forests.
The species was originally described as Callomyza viduella by Zetterstedt in 1838.[3]
