Visual Description
Members of the genus Adelphomyia are small crane flies. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, they exhibit the characteristic slender body form typical of many Limoniidae.[1] Key visible traits include long, delicate legs and wings that are often held folded over the abdomen when at rest. The wings frequently display subtle venation patterns and may have a slightly translucent or patterned appearance.[1]
Research and Distribution
The genus Adelphomyia Bergroth, 1891, belongs to the subfamily Limnophilinae within the family Limoniidae.[2] Recent studies have expanded the understanding of their distribution, such as on the Korean Peninsula, where four species are recognized. Research in this region has included the description of new species, such as Adelphomyia jejuana, and the development of identification keys for all Palaearctic species.
