Abothrium gadi is a species of tapeworm belonging to the phylum Platyhelminthes, class Cestoda, order Bothriocephalidea, and family Triaenophoridae. Its broader taxonomic classification includes the subphylum Rhabditophora, superclass Neodermata, and subclass Eucestoda. Preserved specimens of this species are maintained in scientific collections, such as those at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.[1][2]
Microscopic examination of Abothrium gadi reveals elongated, flattened proglottids with a granular surface texture and distinct, irregularly shaped internal reproductive structures. The anterior region or scolex exhibits a compact, multi-lobed, or branched morphology, often appearing as a symmetrical, silhouette-like structure. Backlit specimens display a segmented body with dark transverse lines and elongated, lighter-colored internal organs.
